Just finished a session with some first time D&D players and this is the description sheet for a player’s human bard who casts spells by giving informational speeches
Bonus:
another bonus: when the rest of the party went upstairs to get food, ted’s player and I were discussing secrets ted wanted to keep from the party and one of them was “ted’s got no bones”
im gonna make a hinged cube that you can open up and lay flat and every face is a different board game and its called Big Chess
i move my queen onto the Monopoly face and draw a chance card which sends all of your pawns to the Mouse Trap
the objective is simple. checkmate your opponent. but you can gain advantages on the other boards.
Chess: it’s just chess.
Scrabble: spell bigger words to earn more points. you can spend these points for either additional pawns or for advantages on other boards.
Monopoly: travel around the board, mostly hoping for chance cards which have the potential to force your opponent onto another board, or to give up a piece, or to lose a turn. you can also buy houses as in regular monopoly- but if your opponent lands on a property you own, you tax them one of their pawns.
Cluedo/Clue: a penalty board, mostly. if you send your opponent here they are forced to play through an entire game of Cluedo until they solve the mystery. in this time, you could regroup and severely fuck up their defences. but if they successfully solve the mystery, they get a bonus Queen, so it’s very high risk/high reward.
Snakes/Chutes and Ladders: again, mostly a penalty board. send an opponent here to force them to complete the entire board, potentially losing a lot of time. however, if they succeed, they get to choose a prize- between a Snake and a Ladder. a Ladder is a weapon that can be wielded by one of their Knights, and allows the Knight to make two of its standard moves in each of its turns. a Snake is a traitor in your midst- giving your opponent one turn’s worth of control over one of your Knights. again, high risk, high reward.
Mouse Trap: chance cards send pawns directly to the trap square, but if either player decides to risk everything by venturing voluntarily onto the Mouse Trap board, they can potentially earn Cheese as they go. Cheese is a buff that can be used on the wielder’s King which triples their movement speed for one turn, essentially allowing the King to move three spaces in any direction instead of just one, which can be quite a useful means of escape.
